Sunny Hill Children’s Hospital Therapy Garden

This was an extremely satisfying and rewarding project for me. The BC Children’s Hospital Foundation commissioned me to create a bear cub sculpture in the Therapy Garden at the new Sunny Hill Hospital for children, Working closely with the hospital’s design consultant, Roger Hill with Aesthetics Inc, we came up with a very friendly and cute bear cub perched in the fork of a polished arbutus tree stem. The sculpture was installed at the site for the August 2020 opening of the new hospital.

A Tribute to Takaya

Several years ago, while having a picnic with friends on Discovery Island off the coast of Victoria we thought we heard a howling wolf. Sure enough, it turned out to be a lone wolf that had swum to the island. This was the start of an incredible 5 year journey of love and passion by my dear friend Cheryl Alexander who studied and photographed this magnificent animal. Working with CBC and BBC, Cheryl created an award-winning and highly acclaimed film of her amazing story and experience with Takaya, the lone wolf of Discovery Island. Sadly, Takaya met a tragic end to his life when he was needlessly shot and killed by a trophy hunter. It only seemed natural to create a life-sized likeness of Takaya in bronze as a tribute to this story.
