I spent my youth catching steelhead trout in the creeks of North Vancouver and later started my first career working with steelhead trout doing swim counts and habitat surveys in the Coquihalla River. It seemed to be a natural subject for me to sculpt.
The first steelhead trout sculpture is of a small doe holding on the cobble river bottom with a piece of woody debris and a small cadis fly house on the rocks. This is how I have typically encountered them when I am swimming in the rivers watching the fish and current flow.
The second sculpture includes a pair of does holding in a tangle of woody debris all cast in bronze to create a functional piece of art, the steelhead coffee table. The table top is etched with a group of floating maple leaves passing over the fish. This piece will bring a strong sense of the river into your home.
