About the Sea Otter Sculptures

I have been captured by the story of the west coast sea otter from its demise a century ago to the most recent re-establishment of vibrant and expanding populations. Most of my study observations of the subject have been at the Vancouver Public Aquarium and at Monterey Bay in California. The playful nature and endearing qualities of the sea otter have drawn me to this subject. .

I have three versions of the sea otter currently available: two adults and one baby. One adult is holding a shiny abalone while the other clutches a green starfish to its chest. The baby otter is also sculpted with a small starfish. I plan to sculpt the river otter later in 2008.

Most of the sea otter installations have been outside. The pieces are well suited for display at ground level on a patio or deck and can readily be mounted for a surface water display in a water garden.

My bronze sea otter sculptures are deeply textured with a dark patina and coppery bronze highlights simulating wet and glistening fur.
