About the Grizzly Bear

The sculpture was inspired by my numerous encounters with grizzly bears while working along the coast of British Columbia as an environmental biologist. By far the most impressive of these encounters was watching the bears along the Atnarko River on the central coast of BC during the fall salmon runs.

This sculpture was done as a commissioned piece for Nimmo Bay Resort. The sculpture is my largest undertaking to date and has provided me the opportunity to work in large scale and perfect the mold making and casting skills required for monumental scale sculpture.

The sculpture is that of a young bear and is posed with a slow ambling gait as if the bear were walking beside a stream in search of a salmon. The sculpture is deeply textured and finished with a rich brown patina with dramatic golden highlights.

• Grizzly Bear – Edition of 3. Size: 64 x 35 x 21 inches.
